Pitching Rolls As Curve Top Thunder, 2-1

TRENTON, N.J. – The Altoona Curve pitching staff held the Trenton Thunder off the board after the second inning in a 2-1 win on Saturday night at ARM & HAMMER Park.

The Curve (58-53) picked up their first road win against the Thunder (74-37) since 2015.

Down 1-0 in the third, Justin Maffei doubled to open up the inning and came in to score on an RBI single by Cole Tucker.

In the fourth, Anderson Feliz tripled and came in to score on a two-out RBI single by Maffei to give the Curve a 2-1 lead.

Trenton scored its only run against Curve starter Brandon Waddell in the second on an RBI single by Abiatal Avelino.

Waddell worked through 4.2 innings and allowed one run on six hits with three walks and five strikeouts. He left in the bottom of the fifth with two runners on and two outs, and Brandon Cumpton (Win, 1-3) got a flyout from Dante Bichette Jr. to strand the runners.

Cumpton worked 1.1 scoreless innings. Avelino led off the seventh with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch with no outs, but Sean Keselica worked out of the inning without allowing a run.

Tate Scioneaux (Save, 11) took over in the eighth and did not allow a baserunner over his two innings.

Maffei finished the game 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored.

The Curve and Thunder wrap up the series on Sunday evening. Altoona right-hander Mitch Keller (AA Debut) will take the mound for the Curve, opposing Trenton right-hander Brady Koerner (3-3, 3.72). First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at ARM & HAMMER Park.
